Road Fc Bantamweight Tournament: Final 4

road fc

Road Fc is one of Asia’s premiere MMA promotions, based in South Korea – Road Fc have only been around since 2010.

The organisation is Korea’s only force in MMA promotions and is really producing some of the best fighters in the Asian region.

Now on there 7th event – Road Fc have shown some of the best up-coming fighters in Korea, and even the odd non-Korean.

It could be well argued that any non-Korean fighters seem to get the very raw end as far as match up’s. However it cannot be denied that Road Fc are putting on great fights and building a strong base for themselves. (i only wish they would put more effort in to showing the world outside of South Korea that they have a great product… and let us see more shows streamed or fights posted on youtube)

The organisation has recently embarked on a Bantamweight tournament that has been gradually worked down to the final 4 competitors. Lots of great fights have come out so far, and even a second chance for one of the favorites to win the tournament.

Kyung Ho Kang (9-6) missed weight during a semi-final fight with Andrew Leone (4-1) and was penalized via points during the fights. This meant that Kang needed to finish Leone to be declared the winner – Leone hung tough and survived a smashing fight – to get the win.

Kang was later granted a second chance from Road Fc…. one that he took hold of at the Road Fc’s latest event: Road Fc 007 Recharged.

Kyung Ho Kang (9-6) took on Shoko Sato (15-10)

These 2 fighters are the most experienced in the Bantamweight tournament – so it was set to be a great fight.

Kang taking the win over Sato in a clip shown below in the breakdown.

With 4 fighters left in the tournament and with the favorite (Kyung Ho Kang) back in the mix…. things are getting tasty for our final contenders.

The Final 4 Fighters – The Breakdown:

Min Jung Song

(3-3) fighting out of South Korea for Team Max
Song already has one loss over fellow final 4 fighter – Kang (via arm bar in round 1)

Song defeated the more experienced but also a fighter with a losing record- Jae Hyun So (8-12) via decision, to progress into the final 4.

Song is not to be overlooked, however with a loss to Kang and Andrew Leone having finished Soo Chul Kim in round 1 when Song has previously lost to So Chul Kim ….. on paper Song is an outside pick to take this tournament.

Min Jung Song (white gloves)

Andrew Leone

(4-1) born in the United States and fighting out of Thailand for Phuket Top Team.

Andrew is not a Bantamweight fighter naturally – normally Andrew fights in the lower flyweight division however for the opportunity to fight in this tournament – Andrew has stepped up to the bantamweight weight class.

Andrew has a win over Soo Chul Kim and also a win over final 4 fighter Kyung Ho Kang. The win over Kang has been argued to be a lucky win – as Kang was penalized points for missing weight.

Leone is a tough character and is in with a chance to take this Bantamweight Title home to Thailand. For Andrew the draw of these final 4 fights will be important (a fight with either Min Jung Song or Jae Hoon Moon would be nice for Leone – who could then re-match Kang (for the title) after getting the win first time around)

Jae Hoon Moon

(3-2) Korean Born and fighting out of Daegu MMA

Jae Hoon Moon did a good job in out scoring Soo chul Kim in Road Fc 006 – to take his place in the final 4.

Jae Hoon Moon is a tough contender and will be a great addition to this final 4 bracket.

KYUNG HO KANG

(9-6) Fighting out of South Korea for BUSAN TEAM M.A.D.

Kang is the proven favorite in this tournament – with a first round submission win over fellow final 4 fighter - Min Jung Song and a disputed win over Andrew Leone.

Reports have been that Kang was physically stronger and would have won on points over Leone – however he missed weight and was therefore rightly penalised.

Kang is a beast and whoever draws the fight with Kang in the semi’s will have a tough task ahead.

Here’s Kang’s fight with Kyung Ho Kang from Road Fc 006

Fight Sport Asia will be reporting all the news from Road Fc 008 and the final 4 results for the Bantamweight Championship Title.
