Shooto 5th round came and went, another Shooto event with the usual (or perhaps very slightly less) lack of international fanfare, but be that as it may, it was another solid card to await a full download for – spoiler ridden as ever. Sigh.
Nice one to my old partner in e-crime Stuart “Hello Japan” Zhones for uploading the main-event, which pitted Shooto’s 154lbs (welterweight) champion Kuniyoshi Hironaka against the 16-5 Brazilian challenger Giovani Diniz, from Nova Uniao, and also the K-Taro fight, with Nakamura squaring off against 2-Pac “Changes” entrance theme using Yuki Sasaki.

Hironaka turned in a dominant display in his first round crushing of Diniz. The Nova Uniao challenger showed his submission pedigree with some leglock attempts, but was ultimately battered by ground’n'pound and finishing late in the round after a nasty barrage.
Sengoku welterweight Grand Prix champion K-Taro took another win at 170lbs, brawling with Sasaki and clinching a unanimous decision by scoring repeated takedowns and GnP to take home the win over Yuki Sasaki. Unlike his entrance theme, Sasaki couldn’t force any “Changes” throughout the fight, as despite landing several solid counter-strikes he couldn’t damage his opponent, and K-Taro’s grappling prowess overcame him and rendered him powerless to do anything but survive.
