Spotlight on Mohamed “Mootje” Khamal !

Mohamed Khamal has for some, flown under the radar.

Having said that – most in the know have been watching Khamal smash through the top echelon of 70kg Muay Thai fighters in the world.

Khamal seems to have no problems transitioning from K-1 rules to Muay Thai with equal success.

Last night (27th May) the SLAMM 7 ‘Thailand Vs Holland’ event went down.

Mohamed Khamal Vs Saiyok Pumphangmuang

Before this fight Saiyok had not lost for 5 years straight, racking up some 32 straight wins over that 5 year period.

Step in Mohamed Khamal (43-5) with the 5 losses coming only via judges decision.

Khamal takes it to Saiyok and gets a huge win via 2nd round doctors stoppage – via a cut (elbow)

Over his career Khamal has defeated many names – in this list we can see names that have been considered the ‘NEXT BEST THING’ and ‘TOP 5′ fighters…

With wins over; Saiyok Pumphangmuang, Liam Harrison, Robin Van Roosmalen, Mosab Amrani, Artur Kyshenko, Harut Grigorian and Anuwat Kaewasamrit.

We need to see this guy in the K-1 Global final 16 – it would be a huge shame to think he has defeated Kyshenko & Grigorian who both stand as heavy contenders for this k-1 title and Mohamed may not get the shot.

Rumor has it that Mohamed Khamal announced his retirement post victory over Saiyok… we are not entirely sure why and are shocked to hear this from the 21 year old star, we can only hope he is offered good money to lure him back into some big fights at the top level.

Hopefully over 2012/2013 we can see more of Mohamed – keep in mind this KID is 21 years old!
