He is a Phuket Top Team standout, former NY state wrestling champion, 10-1 fighter currently contracted to One FC and about to take part in the finals of the Road FC Asia Bantamweight Grand Prix. His name is Andrew Leone.
As for a nickname, we’re not sure. He once went by “Robin Hood”, but as a Yorkshireman who better than I to tell you what a preposterous notion that is. “Lion Heart” Leone, “Future Black Belt”, “Prince Andrew Leone”, all have been strongly considered and even used. But beyond his nickname, he’s very sure about the rest of his career.
“I’m taking it one step at a time”, he insists. “I’m not looking past the first guy (in the Grand Prix semi-final), then if I win I probably get Kang again, and then Roy (Docoygen) at flyweight in One FC. It’s just up to me to win, and keep winning.”
Leone is matched up with Min Jung Song (5-3) in his semi-final of the tournament, and should be advance to the final later that night on June 16, he will take on the winner of Kyung Ho Kang – his rival – and Jae Hoon Moon (3-2) who is a heavy underdog against Korea’s best bantamweight (and former lightweight).
