With the Phuket super-fight down the drain due to Phil Baroni’s knockout loss, Roger Huerta was left without an opponent. That gap has now been filled by Zoro Moreira of Evolve MMA, at 77kg.
Huerta, one of four Phuket Top Team fighters contracted to One FC (three of whom fight on the Destiny of Warriors card), is a lightweight Mexican superstar looking to bounce back to divisional elite status after a series of injuries and losses shook his current standing. The man who went 6-0 in one single year in the UFC then lost to Maynard and Alvarez, then most damagingly of all, War Machine Jon Koppenhaver, and his stock subsequently fell. Winning in One FC, however, especially with a potential super-fight with Shinya Aoki a real possibility after the collapse of DREAM.
Moreira is a 6-1 professional Mixed Martial Artist with a strong background in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. That presents an interesting stylistic matchup for an exciting, entertaining striker/wrestler in Huerta, who always likes to put on a show.
The winner of this fight goes on to potentially high profile fights in Asia, and in the case of both, very probably at lightweight. Huerta is a full time 70kg competitor who bulked up for Baroni, and Zorobabel has shown significant prowess at the weight given his height and obviously size advantage, which were evident in his last two bouts; victories over former Ultimate Fighter contestant and fellow black belt Andy Wang, and M-1 Global champion Felipe Enomoto.
One FC: Destiny of Warriors is on June 26th in Kuala Lumpur.
