Comeback Kid Smashing Stadiums (prelude to a feature)

What a story! “Bouncebackability” is the buzzword.

This is but a precursor, an aperitif, an appetiser to a more fitting feature.

Jesse Robbins, the Ink Asia sponsored fighter at Phuket Top Team survived a horrific stabbing incident last year at the hands of a methamphetamine addict from Russia, suffering grievous facial injuries and multiple stab wounds, with near-fatal blood loss, only to return to the Muay Thai ring and start racking up victories. That’s a tremendous comeback from a purely fighting perspective.

Yet more importantly, the likeable young man is reflective about the incident and remains positive and focused on his goals, and claims his outlook on life has changed for the better as a result of the experience. Trust me, that is a truly a humbling thing to hear and witness firsthand, given that as a human I myself am prone to that all-too human characteristic of being bogged down by the negativity of others, or allowing things to increase my own negativity. But in speaking to people determined to be energisers, not energy sappers, it affirms my own belief in the human spirit that positivity and faith can conquer all, and overcome doubts, negativity and emotional turmoil.

Comeback Kid Jesse trains at Phuket Top Team under the tutelage of former Rajadamnern & Lumpinee Stadium fighters and champions, in one of Phuket’s strongest programs of Muay Thai. Fight Sport Asia has released all episodes of the Muay Thai documentary the gym released (8 Limbs: Life of a Nak Muay) and several instructional videos produced by the gym featuring fighters and coaches.

Anyone that releases Muay Thai video content, even in 2012, is to be applauded. Phuket Top Team certainly do that.

With regards to Mixed Martial Arts, also available in Phuket’s première camp for MMA in Thailand, is the best BJJ in Asia under two Brazilian black belts (one 4th degree, and a One FC contracted fighter) and world class wrestling and MMA sparring with a full time fight team consisting of athletes competing at One FC, Shooto, Road FC, Bellator, Strikeforce, MFC, F-3, Legend FC and the URCC.

This is a prelude to a proper feature, as Jesse’s return to fighting and his attitude both merit that. For now, enjoy his fight, enjoy this prelude and enjoy your day, young bloods. You only live once; keep smiling, and don’t worry… about a thing… cos every little thing, is gonna be all right.
