The 2011 Lumpinee Stadium Fighter of the Year (and also-ran for the 2012 Sportswriters Fighter of the Year Honour) and former Lumpinee Stadium Super-Bantamweight ruler Sam-A returns to action on the 7th August against the Thailand title-holder, in what should be a barnburner of a fight.
- SAM-A
Former Lumpinee Stadium 122lbs champion & Fighter of the Year 2011
versus
- THONG
Former Rajadamnern Stadium champion & current Thailand 122lbs champion & Lumpinee top 5 ranked.
.
The fight, a rematch of a 2010 encounter that Sam-A won on points, is an interesting little scrap, as the two men are probably the clear cut best at the weight. Thong slipped recently when he was one fight away from securing this marquee fight back in February, when Petchpanomrung headkicked him out of Lumpinee title contention and earned himself a short-lived period as Thailand’s hot prospect, before Sam-A (and then several others) knocked him back down the rankings.
However, since then, Sam-A lost his bid to be Sportswriters Fighter of the Year for 2012 by losing to 126lbs king Penek Sitnumnoi, whereas Thong rebounded by becoming the Thailand super-bantamweight champion, a title he has just defended against Tingtong.
This fight will determine who is the undisputed #1 super-bantamweight in Thailand, and probably the world itself.
