Whoomp – der it is!
This is fantastic news for fans of both Korean and Asian MMA in general. Road FC are, it could be said, as popular in Korea as Oasis are in England – well, that’s not entirely true… let’s say they’re as well known as The Kaiser Chiefs. Or Franz Ferdinand.
Prime-time television slot… reality television shows… Andrew Leone, the young American flyweight and finalist of the Road FC Bantamweight Grand Prix couldn’t go into a Seoul 7-11 without being recognised. On the domestic front, Road Fighting Championships are, to coin Ron Burgundy, kind of a big deal.
And now they’re streaming live to an international audience.

Road FC have near unlimited potential, as FightSport Asia has been persistently claiming for months upon months. Even with their bantamweight star Kyung Ho Kang heading Stateside to the UFC, they can still boast a stacked roster, the most notable recent international additions being Melvin Manhoef and Ikuhisa Minowa to the middleweight division that also features former PRIDE and UFC star Denis Kang.
The Road FC IX card will feature the beginning of the lightweight tournament of which JJ Ambrose is rumoured to be part of, as well as Manhoef and Minowa, and there is to be a forthcoming flyweight Grand Prix featuring the aforementioned Lion Heart Leone!
Keep checking Fight Sport Asia for Road FC news – we’ve been the #1 English language outlet to follow our favourite Korean organisation, and we will continue to do so as they push on and break through to the next level.
Also; Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina is to hit cinemas in the coming days. Finally, the great man gets his due outside of War & Peace. Just don’t tell Orwell.
