UFC has an established branch in Beijing, China.
This branch is now buzzing with the upcoming UFC Macau and the word on the street is a big 2013 is setting up for the UFC in Asia.
The ‘UFC Asia Fight Series‘ is said to be the title of what we expect to be 6-10 events held within Asia during the 2013 calendar year.
With this big push for 6-10 events, we are also told they are actively seeking more Asian born fighters.
The pool is actually not as big as some may think, many of the Asian talent is now signed to ONE FC, ROAD FC, URCC, PXC or Legend FC.
We know that ONE FC, URCC, PXC contracts are very strict while Road FC and Legend FC often allow for ‘non-exclusive deals’
Either way, the search for Asian talent is on…. and the UFC want in!
UFC pre-requisites are pretty simple… Asian born, coming off wins, good all round talent and under no current contract.
2013 will be interesting to see who from the booming Asian organisations makes the step up to the UFC.
The Asia Fight Series itself will be very entertaining and a huge boost to the already booming Asian MMA community.
The Asia Fight Series the UFC is bringing to the Asian MMA community is a win-win for all involved.
It brings the spotlight on the Asian talent, also on the other Asian MMA organisations and the Asian MMA scene in general.
One thin that will be interesting to see, is if there is somewhat of a showdown or rivalry that comes up between One FC and UFC as the 2 biggest organisations in the Asian region.
