Earlier today in Craiova, Romania, the second Superkombat World GP event of the year took place featuring hometown favorite Catalin Morosanu taking on Eduardo Mendes, and Sebastian Ciobanu fighting to qualify for the SUPERKOMBAT World GP Finals.
In the evening’s top billing attraction, Catalin “The Carpathian Death” Morosanu made short and violent work of Eduardo Mendes. Coming out swinging from the opening bell, both fighters exchanged wild haymakers until eventually Morosanu caught Mendes with a very clean high kick. Mendes was unable to answer the count, and the fight was called off late in the first round.
Also on the card, Sebastian Ciobanu defeated both Vladimir Toktasnyov and Frank Munoz to qualify for the SUPERKOMBAT World GP Finals. While Ciobanu’s victory over Toktasnyov was undeniable, his extra round win against Frank Munoz was much closer. The two fighters swapped groin shots over four rounds, and in the end, Munoz could have just has easily taken home the decision. Ciobanu got the nod however, and will go on to compete in the WGOP finals later this year.
Rounding out the main card, Benjamin Adegbuyi went to-to-toe with Jairzhino Rozenstruik over three rounds using his size, reach, and brutal punching combinations to put his opponent on the back foot. In my opinion, Rozenstruik may need to drop down to 95 kg. The competitors at HW are simply too large for him right now, and he’d be a much lighter and faster fighter at light heavyweight.
