Earlier today in Thailand, Saenchai continued his busy schedule by participating in and winning another TOYOTA 8 Man tournament.
Besides Saenchai, the seven other tournament members were relatively unknown foreigners. Vahid Sahabazi of Iran, who had won the previous 8 Man Toyota Marathon, was arguably Saenchai’s most threatening competition.
The icon on Muay Thai started things off with a bang, TKO’ing Stanislav Patrakov of Russia with an elbow in the very first round.
In the semi-finals Saenchai faced Vahid Sahabazi. Sahabazi pressured Saenchai in round 1, but in the second Saenchai brilliantly adjusted the direction of his punches and caught the Iranian square on the chin, putting him down for an 8 count. In the final round the action was relatively even, but Saenchai had no need to bring the pressure and unexpectedly moved on to the finale.
In the final match of the tournament Saenchai met Naimjon Tutaboef of Uzbekistan, who the Thai played with and dominated for 5 full rounds. Saenchai won his second Toyota Marathon in recent years, and came away with another belt to add to his ever-growing collection.
Next for Saenchai is a big fight with Kongsak Sitboonmee on August at Rajadamnern stadium, followed by a clash against MAX 67 kg champion Andrei Kulebin in September.
